This pair of Copeland & Garrett plates are decorated with an asymmetrical transfer print of an assortment of exotic hand coloured flowers and foliage surrounding a central scallop shell, all on a net ground. The pattern is number 1994, which was introduced in 1833, but no reference has been found for it. New Fayence was a term used by Spode to denote an improved ivory coloured earthenware body which was introduced in the late 1820’s. The plates measure 205 mm (8 inches) in diameter and stand 20 mm (.75 of an inch) high. They are in very good condition and would date from around 1835
