French wardrobe Louis XVI style cherrywood armoire In wealthy families, wardrobes were given as gifts to newlyweds. They contained all the household linen for future years. The special feature of this wardrobe is the part that could be locked, to store precious objects such as small silverware or family jewels. Made in southwest France, a Basque cross and star decorate the front. A difference in color is visible at the bottom of the cabinet (see last photos). In very good condition for its age.
