An extraordinary American empire four-poster bed in cherry wood from the Philadelphia area that appears in the book, Philadelphia Empire Furniture by Boor. Features an elaborate series of foliage-carved turnings, gadrooned edged urns and spiral acanthus leafage with a central basket of fruit, flanked by cornucopias, adorning the headboard. Presently fits a queen mattress, but may be modified to fit a king mattress in our workshop for an additional cost. Philadelphia, circa 1825

Condition:GoodRefinished. Additions or alterations made to the original: Side rails were lengthened to 80″ to fit a queen mattress. Wear consistent with age and use. Side rails were modified to fit a queen mattress & box. Made of solid 6″ x 6″ cherry or poplar square stock, that was turned & carved for the posts. Has original dark varnish finish.
