Antique Afshar Rug 5’3” x 6’4”. Refers to the tribes of SE Persia (Kerman Province) who weave a wide variety of styles, including Herati, boteh, medallion, textile, stripes, urban and rustic. Antique examples are all wool, later cotton warps come in. Moderate to fine weaves. Usually scatter sizes, sometimes larger, few runners, but numerous bags and bag faces. Very active in the recent market.
