Regency period Sampler, stitched in 1825, by Mary Parry. The sampler is worked in silk threads on a linen ground, mainly in cross stitch. Meandering floral border. Colours green, cream, silver, blue and copper. Signed and dated, ‘Mary Parry her Work sampler aged 15 march 25. 1825 in the year of our lord amen’. A good set of motifs, including Adam & Eve standing either side of the tree of life with a snake coiled around its trunk, dogs, birds, flowers, potted flowering plants, fruit baskets, blossoming trees, crowns, hearts and trees. Framed in an old wooden frame with glass. Mounting: The sampler is fixed to board. Frame backed with card and sealed with tape.. Dimensions exclude the frame and slip.

Condition:GoodGood. Two small holes. Slight uniform age darkening of the ground. Colours are mostly good and strong, though the text at the bottom of the sampler is faded. The silks bright. No colour run. Neatly stretched. Frame showing slight wear.
