This Old Sheffield Plate card tray measures 220 mm (8.75 inches) in diameter and stands 30 mm (1.25 inches) high. The edge of the tray which is decorated profusely with flowers and flourishes, is made up of sections of stamped silver which have been applied to decorate the piece and hide the edge showing the copper core. (Please see my post on the manufacture of Old Sheffield Plate). The tray rests on three lovely ball and claw feet made of pressed Old Sheffield Plate. There is a very small bit of damage to the rim where one of the protruding edge pieces has been bent, and very, very minor loss of silver to the rest of the piece. C 1820.
