Two oil on panel paintings of “Landscapes with cows”, attributed to Jean-Michel Diebolt (1779-1824). Both paintings present mountainous landscapes with cows. The first painting represents a couple of shepherds accompanied by cows, goats and a dog. The man, with his stick in one hand, is holding a young goat in the other, while his companion is sitting astride a horse (or donkey). The second oil painting shows two cows in the foreground, one of which is confronting the shepherd’s dog. In the background, on the other side of the river, is a shepherd and the rest of the herd. The paintings are signed: on one of the paintings the signature of “M. Diebolt” is clearly visible, on the other it has faded slightly. The two original frames date from the 19th century.
