This four-drawer chest or commode is made of French cherry. The top is 23″ deep with only two boards joined. There is a shrinkage separation at the joint and some shrinkage cracks in the rear top board. The front frieze is actually a drawer with a finger groove for opening the drawer that runs the entire length from left to right. The drawer front exposes markings where handles were attached in the past. These could be professionally disguised if desired. The sides have recessed panels and the stiles have pilasters carved onto the fronts. The handles (not original) have opposing dolphins framing scallop shells.
