Retaining the original old brass patina, this early 19th century item had different purposes. It could be used as a sturdy trivet in front of an open hearth for a large kettle or other pans to keep warm or as a bench to warm by the hearth. They were even used as a step up to a carriage, thus the name footman.
This piece features cabriole legs in front, a reticulated top with a pinwheel design and a reticulated scalloped border on all four sides. The handles on either side make it easy to transport. A must-have for the well-appointed fireplace.
