A masterpiece in the collection. This magnificent French fireplace in the elegant Rococo style is characterized by its size and appearance. The antique fireplace comes from the center of Ghent, Belgium. This fireplace was made in the 18th century by or in the style of Nicolas Pineau. Pineau was a French sculptor and ornament designer who was one of the initiators of the Rocco style in France. Much of his work can be found in France and St. Petersburg. The consoles (legs) of the mantelpiece are angled and richly decorated. The shell that is carved in the middle of the fireplace can be seen in miter in the consoles, which makes this fireplace very special. The top follows the shape of the mantelpiece and is intended to follow the lines of the consoles. The size and exclusive appearance of this antique fireplace make it the absolute center of the room.
