A late Regency rosewood window seat, in the manner of George Oakley, of rectangular form, with vase-shaped, upholstered arms, reeded seat rails and tapering gadrooned legs with the original brass castors, the arms carved with bold acanthus scrolls, reupholstered in red fabric with a separate buttoned seat cushion. English, c 1820.
See ‘Ackermann’s Regency Furniture and Interiors’ by Pauline Agius and Stephen Jones, Marlborough, 1984, p 132 pl. 116 for a very similar ‘dress sofa’ designed by Mr. J Taylor who ‘obtained considerable experience in furniture in the house of Oakley’.
